Guts: A Look at Kierra Sheard-Kelly

So why is who's been in and out of Kierra Sheard's guts a topic of conversation these
days?

Kierra, the undisputed gospel darling, daughter of world renowned gospel singer Karen Clark-Sheard and Church of God in Christ presiding bishop J. Drew Sheard, posted a candid picture of herself and her budding family during a visit to Disneyland. The otherwise unassuming social media update was captioned:

“#myfamily the joys of being a wife and mother, the whole household has been in my guts! Hooraaaay! 🥰🫠🎉..."

Girl, say what?!

It was then taken down to a more subdued "saintly" caption moments later.

I can only imagine the pressure one must feel when you have eyes constantly on you. One thing that I have been impressed by Kierra is that through her journey of being a pastor's kid, sharing the challenges of holding onto Christian principles in a secular society, and surviving miscarriages just short of death, Kierra no doubt has shown herself to be a resilient spiritual figure.

Yet we arrive at the now viral Facebook post on January 21, 2025.

I was a bit stunned, to be honest. It isn't a leap for any follower of Kierra's to know she has been a proponent of living and representing "holiness." So to go from that image to putting her guts on front street was surprising.

For me personally, I understand that we are all designed as sexual beings, whether you're in or out of a faith practice. In addition, knowing that Kierra is a married woman with a child, she crosses off all the important boxes of living a Christian life in being fruitful and multiplying.

But why such a public proclamation? Why present such a statement that nobody asked for? It's clear that Kierra has sex in her marriage, as her daughter is evidence of that. Was this just a moment to be "gutsy"?

Or is it something else?

Because the only reason why someone would make a grandiose and unnecessary gesture like this is when they are trying to solidify shaky ground. (In my opinion) Now there are T-shirts, hoodies, and a song for sale from the controversy using the moniker "God's Up To Something" (Guts).

Get your coin, sis.

To a woman who has revolutionized what it means to be a preacher's kid, artist, and entrepreneur while advancing the contemporary gospel landscape seemingly with grace and transparency, I say kudos. But considering all those accomplishments now be reduced to thinking about guts at Disneyland, how unfortunate.

Thoughts and prayers. 🙏🏾

One more thing. Back in 2011, our Princess of Gospel was engaged before to Pastor Welton Smith IV. No word on why it was called off, but...
